The Dion Switzerville Red Barn Snowshoe Race was held on Sunday, February 20 on a private trail system on the Switzerville Road, just east of Napanee.
This was the final race of the Dion Eastern Ontario Snowshoe Running Series. Course conditions were good, especially considering the melt we had over the past few days, and the competition was fierce with the series title up for grabs.
Taylor Murphy won the men’s race at the Red Barn, with a time of 27:41 over the 6km course. Taylor was followed by his brother Blake Murphy in a time of 30:23 and Paul Paudyn in 32:01.
Amanda Murphy won the women’s competition in a time of 32:18, followed by Angela Maciejewski in 35:27 and Eliza Murphy in 37:07.
Taylor Murphy and Angela Maciejewski were crowned as champions of the Dion Eastern Ontario Snowshoe Running Series based on their top two race performances in the three race series. Each received a pair of top of the line Dion 121 Racing Snowshoes. Other awards and draw prizes were given out to participants including Dion Running Snowshoes and various prizes from our sponsors.

What a great day. I had never seen a snowshoe race before, it was exhilarating. Congrats to all the athletes.
I think it was a bit unfair that you had your race the same weekend as the Murphy’s Family Reunion! Glad to see there was still some snow!
Thanks again Buttons for the awesome photos!
Keith,
Ha. Two brothers, one spouse, one cousin and one unrelated. Sorry you couldn’t make it. (PS. The Mahones were good).
