2011 Sydenham Fall Trail Run – Report, Results & Photos

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2011 Sydenham Fall Trail Run.

Fortunately, the weather held out for us, though the conditions were quite blustery with a strong west wind for the last half of the race. Everyone should be commended for running awesome races in challenging conditions. Good stuff!

210 runners completed the race, with many first time competitors taking part. We love seeing runners who are new to our Sydenham race, just as much as we love seeing our many returning friends.

The men’s race featured a strong battle right to the end with the final decisive break only occurring less than 500 meters from the finish. Felix Lafontant kicked in hard to finish in a time of 30:39, just 10 seconds in front of second place finisher Keith Iskiw. Jack Chubaty finished third overall in a time of 31:14. Top master (40 years and over) competitor in the mens race was Steve Blostein in 31:20.

In the women’s race, Rochelle Moore went out at a solid pace at the beginning and never relinquished her lead to take the women’s title in a time of 32:07. Margarita Sviajina finished second in 32:58, with Myra MacDonald finishing third in 33:48. The top female master was Joanne Armstrong in 34:39.

  1. Karen Spafford-Fitz says:

Congrats, Derrick and Sara, on an awesome event. Would love to have been there with you! Great looking volunteers too! And hey, was that an ugly foot competition I saw in the photos? Can I place a little wager on who won?!

  2. Thanks again Derrick & Sara for a wonderful event. Thank as well to all the volunteers. Thanks as well to Felix for pushing me through the race. I had a great time trying to keep up. I think maybe I should start running shorter races instead of ultras….nah.

  3. Thanks Karen. Yup, always a fun event. It was actually a competition for the ‘nicest looking feet’ as determined by our expert panel of judges.

Thanks Keith. Good to see you out there hammering. You ran well.

  4. Rick Royce says:

    Derrick and Sara,

As always, a first class race. Thanks again for the great event!!

  5. Thanks Rick. Always great to see you out there. Now it’s time to bring on the snow!

  6. Oh That looks like it was fun. I am happy the weather held out for you. I love the comment about bringing on the snow. I look forward to using my snowshoes but I hesitate to ask the snow gods for it just yet there are lots of nice fall days to enjoy. B

  7. I have won your mom’s fleece socks two years in a row now and I love them! Maybe you could have a table set up next year after the race selling them? Just an idea :)

  8. Your Mom’s socks are the best. I sit here looking down at them right now colourful and warm. B

  9. Buttons & Shannon… Yes, the socks are certainly a hit at the races!

  10. Almost makes me glad we missed wineglass and I was able to give the race a run for it’s money. Good job on getting that nasty headwind to blow so we’d all have a very challenging 4km coming back. Never one to make it easy, are you coach.
Thanks to you both and EVERYONE working in the background quietly making you look good 😉

  11. You bet…uphil, into a headwind in both directions 😉 Wouldn’t want it any other way!!!

  12. Jeremy Neven says:

Sorry I couldn’t make it this year……looking forward to the snoeshoe races this winter though!

  13. Was wondering if you’d be out Jeremy. Now that Sydenham is out of the way….bring on the snow!!!!
