Yukon Arctic Ultra


Derrick Spafford has over 30 years of competitive running and coaching experience. He has competed in hundreds of races in distances from 800 meters to 100 miles; from track to ultramarathons. While he enjoys competing in a variety of different events, his current favourite races include trail, mountain, ultra and snowshoe running races.

Derrick’s passion for running is obvious to his clients and those he speaks with about running as is evident by the fact that he has not taken a day off from running since 1989.

Sara Montgomery has competed in road, trail, mountain, stage and snowshoe running events in a wide range of distances since 1998. She has recently expanded her love of running into coaching, and enjoys providing guidance and structure to others as they work towards their individual goals. Her philosophies are grounded in her ongoing passion for studying all aspects of running, and fall under SHA coaching principles. She has written for numerous publications including Trail Runner, Canadian Running, Snowshoe Running Online, Her Sports, and More Magazine. Since 2005 Sara has been a member of the La Sportiva Running Team.
