2018 DION Ignite the Night Snowshoe Race - Results
The DION Ignite the Night Snowshoe Race took place last night under the magical festive lights of Upper Canada Village.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 5k and 10k events. Conditions were challenging after the melt and rain a few days earlier, followed by a snowstorm, but everyone seemed to have a wonderful time and enjoy the night.
In the women’s 10km, 2017 World Snowshoe Running Championships silver medalist Annie Jean of Chelsea, QC won in a time of 1:07:23. 2017 DION Ontario Snowshoe Running Series Champion Lisa Leskien of Cambridge, ON finished second in 1:08:06. Amanda Brandimore of Gatineau, QC was third in 1:21:39. Top female master runner (over 40yrs) was Lynne Giroux of Glen Walter, ON in 1:26:21.
Rob Lefebvre of Williamstown, ON took first place in the men’s race in 1:01:03, just 17 seconds ahead of second place finisher Bruno Lafontaine of Gatineau, QC in 1:01:20. Corey Turnbull of Smith Falls, ON was third in 1:01:37. Top male master (over 40yrs) was Dave McMahon of Chelsea, QC in 1:02:16.
The women’s 5km race was won by Lise Meloche of Chelsea, QC in 38:33. Harmony Koiter of Avonmore was second in 39:25, followed by Sonia Wahurte of Kanata, ON in third in 41:11. Top female masters runner was Karen Bertrand of Ottawa, ON in 42:10.
14 year old Evan Raz of Woodlawn, ON won the men’s race in 33:55. Michael Raz of Woodlawn, ON was second in 37:50, followed by Tony Machado of Ottawa in third in 38:52. Top male master was Rick Balderson of Nepean, ON in 42:11.

The next race in the DION Ontario Snowshoe Running Series is the DION Brighton Snowshoe Race on January 27, 2018. Points are awarded for each race in the series with male and female series winners each being awarded a pair of DION racing snowshoes.
