2018 DION Brighton Snowshoe Race - Results
The DION Brighton Snowshoe Race was held today at the Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area near Brighton, Ontario. This was the second race in the DION Ontario Snowshoe Running Series.
Congratulations to all competitors!
With the recent rain, freezing rain and mild temperatures, the conditions were hard packed snow, icy and fast. The course had to be shortened to 5km from the original 6km route to avoid bare ground sections and the worst of the ice. Everyone still looked to have a wonderful time on the beautiful trails.
Bernie Hogan finished first overall in a time of 21:10. Greg Leskien finished second in a time of 23:12, followed by Gonzalo Espinosa in third place in 23:44. The top male master (over 40yrs old) was Robert Browne in 27:30.
Lisa Leskien won the woman’s race in a time of 24:04. Melissa McKiel was second in 29:02, followed by Sara Hurowitz in third place in 30:31. Emily Atkins was the top female master in 33:20.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the race, and a special thank you to Race Director Erin McDougall and his wonderful team of volunteers, and sponsors. The next race in the DION Ontario Snowshoe Running Series is the DION Winter Goose Chase Snowshoe Race in Cambridge, ON on February 3, 2018. Points are awarded for each race in the series with male and female series winners each being awarded a pair of DION racing snowshoes at the conclusion of the series.
