2018 DION Frontenac Snowshoe Race - Results

DION FRONTENAC SNOWLESS SNOWSHOE RACE:

Congratulations to all competitors in today’s DION Frontenac Snowless Snowshoe Race held just north of Sydenham.

Due to the recent heavy rain and massive snow melt, the trails in Frontenac Park were too icy and dangerous to run in snowshoes (or even traction devices), so the event was held as a hilly 7 km road race. In keeping with the snowshoe theme, runners were instructed to carry snowshoes in their hands for the full race distance. Competitors who opted out of carrying their snowshoes were charged a two minute penalty.

Bernie Hogan of Bancroft was the first runner to complete the race in a time of 25:30. Corey Turnbull of Jasper was second in 27:13, followed by Rob Lefebvre of Williamstown in third in 27:35. Erin McDougall of Brighton was the top master (over 40yrs) in a time of 31:33.

Lisa Leskien of Cambridge won the women’s race in a time of 29:21. Michelle Kennedy of Kingston was second in 32:45, followed by Sharon Rutledge of Cambridge in third in 38:38. Dawn Miler of Tweed was the top female master in 43:00.

Thank you to all competitors, race sponsors and volunteers for making this race possible.

DION ONTARIO SNOWSHOE RUNNING SERIES CHAMPIONS:

With this being the final race in the 2018 DION Ontario Snowshoe Running Series, male and female series champions were crowned. To be eligible for the series awards, competitors had their best 3 races in the 5 race series count, with the lowest total being named the winner.

Lisa Leskien won the women’s series with a perfect total of 3 wins (Brighton, Summerstown and Frontenac).

Rob Lefebvre won the mens series with a total of 5 points (Ignite - 1st, Summerstown - 1st, Frontenac - 3rd).

Lisa and Rob were each awards a pair of DION 120 Laser Racing Snowshoes.

Snowshoes were donated courtesy of DION Snowshoes and Spafford Health and Adventure. DION and SHA also gave away a free pair of snowshoes to one lucky participant in each of the 5 races in the series by random draw.

Thank you to all participants and sponsors for supporting the 2018 DION Ontario Snowshoe Running Series and we look forward to seeing you again next season.
