2019 DION Ignite the Night Snowshoe Race - Results
Congratulations to everyone who took part in Saturday’s Dion Ignite the Night Snowshoe Race.
This was the first race in the 2019 Dion Ontario Snowshoe Running Series.
This unique night snowshoe race is always a popular one in the series as it is held under the spectacular light display of Upper Canada Village. Conditions were fast due to light snow and a hard packed route.
There was a 5km and 10km race, with points being awarded in the 10km race towards the series.
Julien Lachance of Gatineau was the first male across the finish line in the 10km in a time of 43:16. Second place went to the 2018 series champion Rob Lefebvre of Williamstown in 46:36, while Jean-Philippe Proulx of Ottawa finished third in 48:31.
Lynda Gingras of Ottawa won the women’s race in a time of 50:36. Annie Jean of Chelsea was second in 51:51, followed by 2018 series champion Lisa Leskien of Cambridge in 57:19.
In the 5km event, Crwys Harris of Orleans finished first in the mens race in 27:24. Evan Raz of Woodlawn was second in 27:49, followed by Rick Balderson in third in 28:22.
Sonia Wahart of Kanata won the women’s race in a time of 32:57. Heather Lewis of Ottawa was second in 33:40, followed by Jen Milligan of Ottawa in third in 34:32.
