2022 Dion Snowshoe Squall - Results
The Dion Ontario Snowshoe Running Series finished on a high note yesterday with a great day of racing at the Dion Snowshoe Squall Race held at Hammond Hill Eco-Lodge and Resort, just east of Ottawa.
This beautiful new and exciting venue was popular with competitors as the 6 km course weaved through the forest with a combination of groomed wider trails and narrow single track. Athletes were treated to fantastic views including a section that dropped out of the forest onto the neighbouring golf course, and through some deeper snow drifts before climbing back up a challenging switchback into the shelter of the tall pines again.
Living up to its race name, participants also witnessed a brief, but intense, snow squall during the race that contributed to exhilarating whiteout conditions.
Following the race, competitors warmed up around multiple campfires in the Hammond Hill Outdoor Beer Garden with some hot soup/chili, a warm pretzel and a tasty Broken Stick Brewing Company craft beer!

Bernie Hogan of Bancroft won the men’s race running 28:30 over the challenging course. Hogan was followed by Charley Murphy of Toronto for second place in 30:26. Peter Quevillon of St-Thomas finished third in 32:07.
Rick Balderson of Nepean was the top master (over 40 years old) in the men’s race in 37:06.
Women’s Race:
In the tight women’s race, Katy Murphy of Toronto won in a time of 36:59. Judy Andrew Piel of Nepean was second in 37:05, followed by Emily Flynn of Ottawa in third in 37:37. Lisa Leskien of Sydenham was the top female master in a time of 37:51.
