2023 Dion Ignite the Night Snowshoe Race - Results
Once again, race director extraordinaire Gilles Parisien saved the day and arranged for a significant snowfall the day before the race to make for great conditions for the 2023 Dion Ignite the Night Snowshoe Race!
This always popular race kicked off the Dion Canadian Snowshoe Series. Racers ran this nighttime race under the spectacular lights of Upper Canada Village’s All right at night festival.
The 10 km race awarded points for runners in the Dion Canadian Snowshoe Series.
The first runner to cross the finish in the men’s race was the 2022 series champion, Bernie Hogan in a time of 39:02. Charley Murphy finished second in 40:52, followed by Bruno Lafontaine in third in 43:27. Darragh Dolan was the top masters runner (over 40yrs old) in a time of 50:47.
The 2022 women’s series champion, Katy Murphy, won the women’s 10 km in a time of 57:43. Lisa Leskien finished close behind in second in 57.56, followed by Michelle Leduc in 58:48 in third. Yvonne Mery was the top women’s master in a time of 59:31.
A 5km non-series race was also held with Andrew Richards crossing the finish line first in a time of 23:01. Geoffrey Richards finished second in 23:03, with Peter Quevillon in third in 25:15. Joe Albert was the top male master in 27:26.
Emily Flynn was the first female master to cross the finish line in a time of 27:10. Jill Sparling was second in a time of 28:26, followed by Jen Gareau in third in 31:04. Heather Lewis was the top women’s master in a time of 32:00.
