2024 Dion Howlin' Husky Snowshoe Race - Results
The Dion Howlin’ Husky Snowshoe Race was held on Saturday, February 17 at the Mountain Bike Club of Kingston. It was the seventh race in the Dion Canadian Snowshoe Series.
Race Directors Lisa and Greg Leskien managed to conjure up a much-appreciated pre-race snowfall in time to allow this race to be run on snowshoes, with perfect fluffy conditions on race day under blue skies and seasonal temps. The new, double-loop course took advantage of a beautiful pine forest for the racers to enjoy before being shunted off for a final uphill segment to finish the 6.2 km race.
Charley Murphy of Toronto was the first runner across the finish in a time of 27:29. Ryan Van Dyl of Kingston was second in 31:25, followed by Erin McDougall of Brighton in third with a time of 32:28 for top male master (40yrs +).
Emily Klassen of Kingston was the top female runner in the race in a time of 35:38. Michelle Brokop of Ottawa was second in 40:18 as well as being top female master. Following closely for third was Julie Schneider of Kingston in 40:46.
A huge congrats to Lisa and Greg and their fantastic team of volunteers for all their hard work in making this such a great event!
A special thanks goes to series sponsors Dion Snowshoes, Spafford Health and Adventure, XACT Nutrition and Lisa Leskien Artist on the Loose in addition to all of the local sponsors including Kick and Push Brewery and Carrier Budge Studio, and with support from Snowshoe Canada.
The next race in the Dion Canadian Snowshoe Series is the Dion Snowshoe Squall held on March 2nd at Hammond Hill, ON. This will be the 2024 Canadian Championship 10K as well as the Snowsquall 5k Classic. Registration is still available!
